Every detail of Scout is thoughtfully crafted for safety and durability—from factory-sanded surfaces to shatter-resistant Plexiglass windows. Pre-Installation Guidelines
Before starting assembly, take time to read through the entire instruction manual. Familiarizing yourself with the steps in advance can help prevent errors and save time during the build.
Storage & Preparation
-
Store Safely – Keep all materials in a dry, elevated location, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Avoid storing the kit in heated indoor spaces.
-
Select the Right Site – Choose a stable area protected from extreme conditions such as high winds or heavy snow loads. If necessary, secure the structure to the ground using suitable anchors.
-
Treat the Timber – All wooden components should be treated with a quality wood preservative to protect against weather damage.

Assembly assistant/helper
-
Level
-
Utility knife
-
Ladder
-
Screwdriver
-
Measuring tape
-
Hammer

Organizing Components
-
Sort all pieces according to the wall layout diagrams in the manual.
-
Arrange components around the intended build area in the order they will be installed.
-
Avoid placing any parts directly on grass, soil, or damp ground to prevent damage and staining.
Base & Foundation
A solid, level foundation is essential for stability and longevity. While a full concrete base isn’t always necessary, options include:
-
Lightweight construction blocks
-
Concrete slabs or pavers
-
Post or pier foundations
-
Screw piles
-
Solid concrete slab for maximum durability
Foundation Tips:
-
Ensure the top edge of the foundation sits at least 2 inches (5 cm) above ground level.
-
Support foundation joists every 20–24 inches (50–60 cm).
-
Maintain airflow underneath the floor for proper ventilation.
Installation Process
-
Follow the sequence in the manual, ensuring each stage is completed before moving to the next.
-
Check all measurements and levels regularly to maintain accuracy.

Some general installation videos are available for reference, but always prioritize the instructions that come with your specific kit.
Important Care & Maintenance Notice
The following tips are general best practices to help maintain the condition and safety of your wooden structure. Always refer to the specific manufacturer’s guidelines and seek professional assistance for any electrical or structural concerns.
Natural Wood Behavior
Wood is an organic material that reacts to seasonal changes in temperature and humidity. Variations such as cracks, knots, and differences in grain or color are normal and do not reduce the product’s strength or longevity.
Preventing Weather Damage, Mold, and Discoloration
Untreated wood—aside from pre-treated base components—will naturally weather to a silver-grey shade and may develop surface staining or mold if left unprotected. To prevent this, apply a quality wood preservative as soon as assembly is complete, or arrange for professional treatment.
Protecting Floorboards
Before installation, treat the underside of each floorboard with a clear wood preservative to protect against ground moisture. This step is important because these surfaces cannot be accessed once the floor is in place.
Maintaining Doors and Windows
To prevent movement, warping, or twisting, treat all sides of doors and windows—both inside and out—with a wood preservative. Proper treatment will help keep them aligned and functioning smoothly over time.
Weatherproofing the Structure
Once built, apply a high-quality, weather-resistant coating or sealant to shield the timber from moisture, UV rays, and temperature changes. This protective finish will help extend the lifespan of the structure.
Painting Tips
-
Use high-grade paint and tools
-
Follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions
-
Avoid painting in direct sun or wet conditions
-
Consult a paint specialist for recommendations suitable for untreated softwood
Ongoing Care
Inspect your structure twice a year to check for any damage, wear, or weathering. Prompt attention to minor issues will help ensure the building remains attractive and structurally sound for many years.
